Our students recently participated in the first ever “chalk-a-lot” experience at University Schools.  This past fall, the City of Greeley hosted an event called, “Chalk-a-lot” on the campus of University of Northern Colorado.  The goal of the event was to create something wonderful as a community, as well as trying to set a new record for the Guinness World Records.

Although our students were not chalking parking lots at UNC, elementary students did use a lot of chalk on the playground.  Our class voted on our favorite read aloud book and no one was surprised that How to Steal a Dog was our class favorite.  This is a book on overcoming poverty as a young girl named Georgina is living in her car with her brother and mother.  She plans to steal a dog to earn reward money to help her family.
While our book cover came together it was amazing to witness the teamwork and spirit of unity.  During the University Schools “Chalk-a-lot” our 4th grade students came together as a team and created something wonderful.
